Wow, this was a super-fast week! We got a lot accomplished and the kids worked hard all week.
During our language arts block we have been doing centers and guided reading. This week we continued to learn why it is important for good readers to sequence the events in a story. We practiced sequencing while reading lots of fun books. Next week we will learn how to write how to papers. We will start off slow, talking about how to wash our hands and how to read a book. Please make sure the students are reading at home. Raz-Kids is a great way to practice reading in addition to the guided reading books that are sent home. This week in math, we continued to practice place value, counting mixed groups of coins and addition and subtraction using the four-square problem solving strategy. We also learned about missing factors. Next week, we will begin our new unit on growing patterns. We have some more fun centers planned for the kids to practice growing patterns.
This week we continued learning about Famous Americans George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Benjamin Franklin. The kids enjoyed doing special projects with each Famous American. We will continue talking about more Famous Americans Christopher Columbus, Christopher Newport and Eleanor Roosevelt next week. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing all the kids on Monday!
