Welcome to the GKES Counseling Corner!

Our Vision:
Our Glenkirk Golden Knights are proactive, able to set and meet goals and achieve high academic standards in an ever-changing career landscape. Our students are resilient, have a growth mindset and demonstrate interpersonal skills that will enable them to be life-long problem solvers both academically and socially. These 21st century skills allow our students to build career skills that will prepare them to be good citizens in a diverse, technologically expanding and ever-changing world. The school counselors collaborate with students, staff, parents and stakeholders to facilitate success for all students to ensure that when they are here, and in the future, they are their best!

Beliefs:
-Each student is a unique individual with diverse needs, talents, cultures and backgrounds.

  • Students need to develop cultural awareness and competencies to be effective in a diverse and global community.
  • All students should be given the tools and support to achieve academic success.
  • All students will have equal access and rights to participate in a school counseling program that is comprehensive in scope, preventive in design, and developmental in nature.
  • A comprehensive school counseling program plays an integral role in the development and well-being of all students.
  • The school counselors should incorporate technology to deliver a program that inspires and informs students and prepares them for careers of the future.
  • Data generated by the School Counseling Department will be reviewed collaboratively by the school counselors, administration and advisory council and will be used to inform and drive the school counseling program.
  • School Counselors should adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the American School Counselor Association.
  • The Glenkirk Elementary School counseling program should be delivered by full-time, state-certified, Master's-degree-level school counselors.

Our Mission:

The mission of the Glenkirk Elementary School Counseling program is to promote the academic, career and social/emotional development of all students through a collaborative effort with students, teachers, administrators, parents and community members. Given the diverse population of Glenkirk Elementary School, the counseling program helps each student regardless of sex, race, ethnic background, socioeconomic class or learning ability. This will help prepare students to become successful, resilient and responsible members of the local, national and global communities in the 21st century. All students will benefit from a world class education that emphasizes access, equity and success in a safe and welcoming environment.
