Since 2014 Glenkirk Elementary School has proudly offered STEM fundamentals through robotics, using both the First Lego League and Vex IQ platforms.

In 2016, seven Vex IQ teams qualified to compete in the Virginia State Competition and two went on to the World Championship in Kentucky.  In 2017  five of our Vex IQ teams traveled to the Virginia State Championship and one team headed to the World Championship again.  Way to go Golden Gears!!!!

The First Lego League (FLL) program is comprised of third grade students and they research a given topic, then plan programming and testing of an autonomous robot to solve missions.

The more advanced Vex IQ platform consists of fourth and fifth grade students who are divided into teams to design, build, and program robots using computer science and programming concepts.
